Parking system testing underway in McNamara Garage at Detroit Metro Airport (Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport)
ROMULUS, Mich. – Parking at the Detroit Metro Airport could soon become easier as a new guidance system is being installed in the McNamara Terminal Garage.
The new parking guidance system features colored lights above parking spaces to help drivers see what spots are available. A green light means there’s an open space, and a red light means there’s an occupied space.

Detroit Metro Airport officials said the testing is being done at the McNamara Terminal Garage and will be fully operational later this year.
According to DTW officials, the lights may not be accurate during the testing phase. Parking availability displays and directional arrows will not be operational.
After testing is complete, drivers entering the parking garage can see real-time availability by level, aisle and individual space. Once work is completed at the McNamara Terminal Garage, the system will be installed in the Big Blue Deck.
