ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan softball program invited the community to step up to the plate Thursday night, all for a cause bigger than the game.
The 17th annual Michigan Softball Academy brought players, coaches, and fans together to raise money for the American Cancer Society, continuing a long-standing tradition of service and outreach.

Michigan Wolverines softball head coach Carol Hutchins said the event reflects the program’s commitment to giving back to those who support the team throughout the season.
“We’re just trying to do our small part to help as a Michigan softball team and have our student-athletes learn that giving back to the community and leaving the world better than you found it is why we really are all here,” Hutchins said.
The program raised $2 million for the American Cancer Society in 2024, and organizers say they are approaching the $3 million mark as fundraising continues.
