Defending Indianapolis 500 champion Alex Palou joins Local 4 after 500 pole

Palou won in Detroit in 2023

Alex Palou picked up right where he left off at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The defending Indianapolis 500 champion claimed his second pole for the 500, besting Alexander Rossi and David Malukas on the front row with a four-lap average of 232.248 mph.

A four-time IndyCar Series champion, the Spaniard will attempt to become just the seventh driver in history to win back-to-back 500s.

Palou joined Local 4’s Joel Sebastianelli on Sports Final Edition to open up on why the Indy 500 is so special, what he’s learned as champion, where he finds his motivation as the world’s most dominant driver, and the pressure (or lack of) with history on the line next Sunday.

The Indianapolis 500 is the final IndyCar race before the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear takes over the downtown streets May 29-31. Palou sat on pole and won in Detroit in 2023.
