Some storms could become severe, with the strongest cells capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail, and even isolated tornadoes.

What is a 4Warn Weather Alert?

We issue a 4Warn Weather Alert when we’re expecting weather conditions that will be inconvenient to our viewers.

Why did we issue an alert for Tuesday?

Gusts will reach 30 mph today ahead of the storms. Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 80s once again, and after Metro Airport reached 90 degrees yesterday, another 90-degree reading today is certainly possible. The standing record high for this date is 91 degrees, set back in 1934. The combination of heat, humidity and an approaching cold front will create favorable conditions for thunderstorms to rapidly develop during the afternoon hours.

The region remains under a slight risk — level 2 out of 5 — for severe weather.

Much like Monday, the primary window for storm activity is expected between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m.
