Warren hit-and-run suspect arrested hours after pedestrian killed crossing Van Dyke

Police tracked a Chevrolet Malibu to a Detroit home the same day as the deadly crash

WARREN, Mich. – A 24-year-old man was arrested less than 12 hours after a hit-and-run that killed a woman over the weekend in Macomb County.

It happened at about 4 a.m., Saturday, May 16, near the intersection of Nine Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue in Warren.

Police said a 54-year-old woman was crossing the street when she was struck by a southbound vehicle on Van Dyke Avenue.

The driver did not stop after the crash.

The woman was seriously injured and taken to a hospital, where she died.

Investigators identified the vehicle as a Chevrolet Malibu, which was located at a Detroit home later that same day.

Earnest Square reportedly admitted to driving the vehicle during the crash and was taken into custody.

Square was charged Tuesday, May 19, with leaving the scene of an accident causing death and driving while unlicensed, causing death. His bond was set at $250,000 cash/surety only.

The crash remains under investigation.
