WARREN, Mich. – A family is mourning a husband and father who was killed Saturday following a dispute at a Warren flea market.
Mirhad Cehic, 57, was working as a vendor at the County Line Trade Center when police say he got into an argument with two customers. His family says the dispute involved a refund.
Witness Dustin Peek said Cehic was a familiar face at the flea market, where he regularly set up his booth on weekends.
“He used to set up every weekend on the corner of the building,” Peek said.
Police: Van struck vendor
Police say the customers’ van struck Cehic during the confrontation.
“I watched a man in a white van take somebody’s life, and then smashed him to the wall,” Peek said.
Cehic was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Family friend Leo Tufek said Cehic’s brother witnessed the incident.
“His brother saw the whole thing unfold,” Tufek said.
Police arrested the two customers involved in the dispute.
Family remembers Cehic as devoted husband
Cehic was a Bosnian immigrant who spent many weekends working at the flea market to help provide for his family.
His wife, Sanela Grcic, said the loss is especially difficult because her father died just two months ago.
“My father died for two months. Now my husband died,” she said.
Grcic described her husband as a kind man and devoted husband.
“He’s 57 years old, sweet old guy. He (was) a good husband,” she said.
Cehic leaves behind his wife, three adult children and two teenagers.
Family wants justice
As family and friends prepare to say goodbye, Tufek said they want the people responsible to be held accountable.
“I hope the people get what they deserve. I hope they get justice,” he said.
The family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses and support his family.
