Authorities ultimately concluded the report was not credible.
“Late this afternoon, we were made aware of a threat directed at the Detroit Zoo,” the zoo said in a statement. “Upon further investigation, it was determined there was no credible threat.”
Officials said similar reports have been made at zoos across the country in recent weeks, though no related incidents or injuries have been reported.
The zoo said the safety of guests, staff, volunteers, and animals remains its top priority.
“The safety and well-being of our guests, staff, volunteers, and animals who call the zoo home is our highest priority,” the statement said.
The Detroit Zoo will remain open on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for regular operating hours.
The Tri-County Senior Day event scheduled for Wednesday will also proceed as planned.
