DETROIT – Two men from Detroit have been charged with premeditated murder in connection with the 2022 fatal shooting of a teen girl from Berkley.
DeShawn McGilary, 23, was charged May 28 with first-degree murder and felony firearm. Andrew Walker, 22, was arraigned Thursday, June 4, on the same charges.

Both men were denied bond.
The charges stem from the death of 15-year-old Janiya Brown in 2022.
Brown was reported missing for two and a half weeks before she was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds on May 11, 2022, in an alley near Joy Road and Livernois Avenue on Detroit’s west side.

Authorities believe Walker assaulted the girl before he and McGilary shot her multiple times.
Police say Brown’s body was found outside a Chevy Malibu associated with a carjacking that was reported two days earlier.
Investigators considered Brown a person of interest in that case, saying that she reportedly lured a 20-year-old she met online to a home on Clarita Avenue, where he was robbed and carjacked at gunpoint.
The two men’s probable cause conference is scheduled for June 12.
If convicted, they face the possibility of life in prison.
