SUMPTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man who pleaded guilty to a careless discharge of a firearm charge in the death of a 20-year-old woman in Sumpter Township was sentenced to probation.
The shooting happened on March 18 at a home on Edgewood Drive. Police said they found the woman in the street with a gunshot wound to the chest. She died at the scene.

Jordan Dejuan Winn was taken into custody and has been charged with careless discharge of a firearm causing injury or death. On May 8, he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Police believe Winn and the victim knew each other.
Winn was sentenced on June 5 to two years’ probation and 40 hours of community service. He was also ordered to pay over $15,000 to the victim’s family.
