Tornado warning issued for Wayne County until 3 p.m. Tuesday

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A tornado warning has been issued for Wayne County on Tuesday, June 9.

The tornado warning was issued until 3 p.m. for the central area of Wayne County.

--> How do tornadoes form?

According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Romulus and is moving northeast at 20 mph.

The National Weather Service said the dangerous storm will be near Taylor, Romulus, Dearborn and Trenton at around 2:25 p.m., Wayndotte at around 2:30 p.m., and Grosse Ile at around 2:40 p.m.

Other locations impacted by the storm include Brownstown Township, Melvindale, New Boston, Riverview, Ecorse, Allen Park, River Rouge, Woodhaven, Lincoln Park and Southgate.

The National Weather Service said this includes the following highways: I-75 between mile markers 32 and 47; I-275 between mile markers 12 and 18; I-94 between mile markers 195 and 207; I-96 near mile marker 192; and M-10 near mile marker 1.

Precautionary actions

Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home or in a car, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
