Officers tried to stop the car, which led to a brief police chase that ended at the driver’s home in the 6000 block of Sandalwood in Van Buren Township.

Police said the man ran to his home and allegedly barricaded himself inside with two family members. Officers then secured the scene and surrounded the home.

After about an hour, officials were able to convince the man to release the hostages, both physically unharmed.

By 8 p.m., the man surrendered himself to police custody. He was then taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.

Police will submit the case to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for a review of possible charges.
