A soggy start to the day is impacting the morning commute across Southeast Michigan as widespread showers continue through the early morning hours. Some of the heavier downpours may contain an occasional rumble of thunder and locally heavy rainfall, reducing visibility and creating ponding of water on area roadways. Drivers should allow extra travel time and use caution on wet roads.
The good news is that conditions will steadily improve as the morning progresses. The widespread, steady rain will transition to lighter showers before ending around lunchtime. Drier air moves in this afternoon, setting the stage for a pleasant evening across Metro Detroit. The forecast could not be much better for those heading downtown for the Ford Fireworks tonight. Skies will gradually clear this afternoon, with temperatures reaching around 73 degrees. It will be breezy through the daylight hours, but tapering off tonight. By fireworks time, temperatures will settle into the 60s under mostly clear skies, making for comfortable viewing conditions along the Detroit River.
Quiet weather remains in place through tonight and Tuesday, with slightly cooler-than-normal temperatures continuing through the middle and latter part of the workweek. Afternoon highs will generally remain in the 70s, providing a comfortable stretch of summer weather.
Our next opportunity for rain arrives Wednesday night into Thursday as another system moves through the Great Lakes. After that, the forecast turns much more summer-like heading into the weekend.
Sunshine and warmer temperatures are expected to return Friday and continue through the weekend, with highs climbing back into the 80s. If you’re looking to spend time by the pool, at the lake or enjoying outdoor activities, the upcoming weekend is shaping up to be a great one across Southeast Michigan.
