Ohio man arrested in road rage shooting on U.S. 23
MONROE COUNTY, MI – Police arrested a man Thursday morning after he allegedly shot at a fellow motorist on northbound U.S. 23 through Summerfield Township in Monroe County. Both men exited the freeway and, while on the Summerfield Road exit ramp, got out of their vehicles and began to fight, police said. A sheriff’s deputy in the area saw the pair fighting and stopped to investigate, police said. After speaking to both men, the 35 year old was arrested and taken to the Monroe County Jail to await charges, police said. MONROE COUNTY, MI – A drowning victim was pulled from a campground pond in Summerfield Township Friday afternoon and taken to the hospital, police said. Rescue crews were called at 5:10 p.m. June 25, to the KOA Campground, 15600 Tunnicliff Road, for a reported drowning, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. The Summerfield Township Fire Department arrived at the scene and began searching the area for the victim while the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team was called in to aid in the search, police said. Dive team member Deputy Dave Moore was first to arrive at the scene and within minutes located the victim in the campground’s pond, police said. The victim was taken to Toledo Hospital in Ohio where life-saving measures are in progress, police said.

Summerfield students evacuated after smoke report
Firefighters were called twice Tuesday morning to Summerfield High School; but no building problems were found. Summerfield High School students were evacuated Tuesday morning due to a smoke investigation held with help from Summerfield Township volunteer firefighters. Firefighters were called twice to the high school at 17555 Ida West Rd., the first call coming about 10:20 a.m. Fire Chief Nick Lucas said investigators “couldn’t find anything” after walking through the entire building. “The only place we smelled smoke was in the old shop class which is used now as a weight room. The school contacted a heating and cooling company about air handler equipment in the building, he said.

K& B Asphalt Sealcoating will asphalt all roads in Pleasant View Cemetery in Summerfield Township next month, the Summerfield Township Board has decided. The firm submitted the lowest of six bids for the work -- $91,382 to the board last week. Chandler said the goal is to have all new roads in the cemetery off Ida West Rd. They (K& B) will pulverize existing pavement and then pave new.

The Monroe County Road Commission has provided the following report. A crew for the Monroe County Road Commission will install a drain cross-tile on W. Dunbar Rd. in Summerfield Township this week, the road commission announced. The crew also will be working on Timbers Rd. Starting today, a gradall crew will remove and install a crosstile on Timbers between Hivon and Colf Rds., closing Timbers to through traffic and possibly overnight, she said.

The fire happened Sunday night on Delray Street in Summerfield Township. According to reports, a passerby was headed westbound on Summerfield when he saw a shed on fire between two houses and called 911. The motorist made contact with the homeowner, who awoke and noticed the man yelling from outside to get out of the house, according to a sheriffs report. The motorist ran to the next house at 8091 Delray to make sure no one was home. Massingill said it was a good thing the motorist stopped and awoke the sleeping homeowner in case his home would have caught fire.
