Investigators said Carleana L. Plyler, 34, of Newport, was driving a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica east on Newport Road with a juvenile passenger when the vehicle entered the intersection and collided with a 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by Robert M. Noble, 66, of Trenton.
According to the sheriff’s office, Noble was turning south onto North Telegraph Road from westbound Newport Road when the collision occurred.
The impact threw Noble from the motorcycle. He came to rest on the south grassy shoulder of Newport Road.
The Chrysler continued through a fence before coming to rest in the parking lot of the DTE Energy Newport Service Center.
Police said Plyler and her juvenile passenger were wearing seat belts, and the minivan’s airbags deployed during the crash.
Noble was not wearing a helmet, according to investigators.
Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.
Plyler and the juvenile passenger were evaluated at the scene and later sought medical treatment on their own as a precaution.
Noble died from injuries sustained in the collision.
