The Department of Corrections said Jones had multiple documented chronic medical conditions, including the potential to increase the risk for cardiac events, and was reportedly offered medical treatement as part of a chronic care plan.

Since May 13, there had been four inmate deaths, including Jones’, at the prison.

Ashley Hoath, 36, died June 6 at Trinity Health Hospital, several hours after being transferred via ambulance from Huron Valley. Rebecca Fackler, 57, died on May 17, and Khaira Howard, 28, died on May 13.

The Michigan Department of Corrections is investigating the events that led to Jones being sent to the hospital, as her death was unexpected.
