Police surrounded the mall located near Evergreen Road and Michigan Avenue on July 3 at around 2 p.m.

Dearborn police said the scene is active and are asking residents to avoid the area while officers secure the scene.

A witness, Weston Fantroy, told Local 4 that he was buying a birthday gift for his daughter when he heard what sounded like four or five gunshots and saw a commotion. He ran outside, fearing for his safety.

“Please stay clear of Fairlane Mall while police secure and investigate this incident,” Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud said in a statement on Facebook.

It’s not clear if a suspect is in custody.

This is a developing story.
