Russell Joseph Wright was arrested following an investigation involving Homeland Security Investigations

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – A 51-year-old Hazel Park man has been arrested and charged with six counts of aggravated child sexual abuse activity, according to Michigan State Police.

Russell Joseph Wright was arrested following an investigation involving Homeland Security Investigations, Northville Township Police and the Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Investigators learned Wright may have participated in, directed and funded the sexual assault of children, police said.

A search of Wright’s residence resulted in the seizure of digital evidence, according to MSP.

Wright was arraigned Friday, Aug. 14, in the 43rd District Court in Hazel Park.

The investigation remains ongoing.

MSP’s Computer Crimes Unit is reminding parents to talk with children about safe internet use and to be aware of resources available to help protect children online.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children provides online safety resources and operates the CyberTipline for reporting suspected child sexual exploitation.

The Michigan ICAC Task Force also provides resources for parents and families.
