DETROIT – A man is in custody after a fatal shooting outside an elementary school in Detroit.

The incident occurred on Thursday (July 2) at 5:15 following a dispute between three adults outside Chrysler Elementary School, police said.

Detroit police said officers from the 7th Precinct responded to the scene, and preliminary information indicated that the verbal altercation between three adult males escalated into a physical fight, during which one man fatally shot another.

The suspect, who police said is a concealed pistol license holder, was taken into custody at the scene. A weapon was recovered.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police did not immediately release the victim’s identity.

Detroit police homicide investigators are handling the case. Further details were not immediately available.
