Mount Clemens woman pleads no contest to threatening Mayor Laura Kropp on Facebook Messenger

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A Mount Clemens woman has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge after prosecutors said she sent threatening Facebook Messenger messages to Mount Clemens Mayor Laura Kropp.

Melissa Ann McGuire, 44, pleaded no contest Tuesday (July 7) in 41B District Court to one count of using a computer to commit a crime, a one-year misdemeanor, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

The charge stems from messages McGuire allegedly sent to Kropp through Facebook Messenger on Nov. 13, 2025.

As part of the plea agreement, a second charge of malicious use of telecommunication services, a six-month misdemeanor, was dismissed.

Kropp was present in court and agreed to the resolution, prosecutors said.

Judge Jacob Femminineo Jr. referred the case for a presentence investigation following the plea.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Frederick Bartolomei represented the state.

McGuire is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 19 at 1 p.m. before Femminineo in 41B District Court.
