MACOMB COUNTY, MI โ A state building in Macomb County has reopened a week after a vehicle crashed into it. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced that its Macomb County/Mount Clemens district office at 44777 N. Gratiot Ave. in Clinton Township would reopen on Thursday. The location has been closed since Dec. 22 after a vehicle crashed into the building, causing severe damage after hours on Dec. 21. All MDHHS offices are closed Friday to Monday due to the holiday. The MDHHS provides public assistance, child and family welfare services, and oversees health policy and management.

According to the Associated Press, Henry Johnson, 38 and Tony Johnson, 43 will not be eligible for parole as part of their respective sentences. Tina was stabbed approximately 60 times, while Kristine was stabbed more than 20 times and was also sexually assaulted. The Johnson brothers were arrested after new evidence determined that a bloody palm print and DNA on Kristine Geiger matched that of Tony Johnson. DNA found under the fingernails of Tina Geiger was linked to one or both of the Johnson brothers as well.

MOUNT CLEMENS, MI โ A southeast Michigan home builder has been fined $350,000 for illegally filling in wetlands while preparing a site for single family housing. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nesselโs office announced the fine last week against developers with MJC Companies, who state regulators say dredged and filled nine acres of wetlands at 41700 Romeo Plank Road in Clinton Township. MJC Companies will restore the wetlands under terms of the consent judgement, which also requires a decade of monitoring and a conservation easement on 13 acres of the 26-acre property, which is sandwiched between numerous other housing developments near Mount Clemens in Macomb County. According to EGLE, the property was marked in 2004 on a Michigan Natural Features Inventory Map as a potential conservation area for its critical ecosystem. EGLE says the developers knew that two-thirds of the property contained state-regulated wetlands before purchasing it in 2020 and then filled them without a permit.

David Stojcevski, 32, suffered serious withdrawals from drug use while serving jailtime for careless driving in Macomb County Jail in 2014, the report said. He was not provided with medical care despite evidence that he was hallucinating and shaking with seizures, the familyโs lawyer said. The county agreed to pay $1.15 million, with some covered by insurance, and Correct Care Solutions, now known as Wellpath, paid $1.3 million, the Macomb Daily reported Tuesday. The FBI investigated Stojcevskiโs death but no charges were filed, the report said.

According to the Associated Press, Oakland County Circuit Judge Nanci Grant issued the ruling after a request was made by Michigan Attorney Generalโs Office that pensions for Smith and his former chief of operations, Derek Miller be frozen. Grant is handling the case as the judges in Macomb County disqualified themselves. Smith is facing 10 charges in that case, while Miller is facing two. The pensions, which are through the Macomb County Employees Retirement System, or MCERS, will be frozen until further ruling from Grant.

The chase continued but came to an end when the suspect crashed the truck into a womanโs car and both vehicles rolled over, according to the Associated Press. The 58-year-old female motorist from Harrison Township was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later, the Associated Press reported. The charges stem from a June 1 incident at the schools where the suspect allegedly stabbed another student multiple times before fleeing the school and being chased down by police. The victim in the case reportedly suffered non-life threatening injuries in the stabbing and is expected to recover. The victim and the teen accused of stabbing him were acquainted with one another according to police.

The unnamed defendant is accused of traveling at a high rate of speed in a stolen Jeep southbound on Van Dyke Street last week before causing a fatal, three car crash near 15 Mile Road in Sterling Heights. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido has charged the defendant with felony murder, second degree murder and first and second degree fleeing a police officer. โOur County is grieving the tragic death of a young woman,โ Lucido said in a statement. Lucido noted that other people could be charged in connection to the incident as the multi-jurisdictional investigation continues.

Thatโs in part because of the work of deputies with the Macomb County Sheriff Office whose body camera footage shows them entering the burning building and helping tenants escape before it was too late. The footage shared on the departmentโs Facebook page picks up with deputies arriving on scene and assisting people who were jumping from their second story window. Another portion of the video shows emergency workers helping a woman who jumped out of her apartment and suffered a leg injury. A second portion of the video shows a different deputy entering the building and going door-to-door looking for people still inside.

Both men are charged with two counts of first-degree premeditated murder, punishable by life in prison without parole; and two counts of felony firearms, punishable by imprisonment for two to 10 years. Banks is also charged with one count of firearms larceny, punishable by up to 5 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $2,500. The victims and suspects knew each other, but the nature of those relationships has not been released. Banks and Davenport are scheduled for probable cause hearings at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, according to court records.
