DETROIT – A Detroit man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend.
Keith Custer, 69, was charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of felon in possession of a firearm, one count of felon in possession of ammunition and three counts of felony firearm.
Detroit police responded to a home in the 9300 block of Birwood on July 6 just after 2 a.m. for a report of an “unknown problem.”
When officers arrived at the home, they found Latoya Reeves, 49, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and right hand. She was taken to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Custer is accused of firing a semi-automatic rifle at Reeves, killing her.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said Reeves was Custer’s girlfriend, and they were living together.
He was arraigned in court on July 9. He was denied bond and a judge ordered a competency evaluation.
Custer is scheduled to return to court on July 20 for a probable cause conference.
