Sheriff: Man found dead on side of Monroe County road was hit-and-run victim

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says it is now investigating the death of a man who was found on the shoulder of Telegraph Road in Bedford Township as a hit-and-run.

Deputies responded to the area of South Telegraph Road north of Crabb Road just before 1:30 a.m., after receiving a report of a man passed out on the side of the road. When emergency personnel arrived, they found the man dead on the shoulder of the northbound lane.

An autopsy revealed that the victim — identified as 61-year-old Kevin Wayne Chesney, of Temperance, Mich. — died of blunt force trauma to the head, likely as a result of an impact with a vehicle, according to investigators.

Deputies say the offending vehicle, which did not stay at the scene, is believed to be a pick-up truck or commercial vehicle with passenger side damage from the crash.
