Gas prices across Michigan have increased 8 cents since last week, bringing the average cost per gallon statewide to $4.23 for regular unleaded.
Motorists are now paying roughly $63 for a full 15-gallon tank of gas, roughly $12 more than the highest price reported last August, according to AAA.
In Metro Detroit, drivers are paying around $4.22 per gallon — about 13 cents more than last week’s average — which rose above $4 for the first time since April — and about 1.01 cents more than the same time last year.
The most expensive averages reported by AAA were in Ann Arbor ($4.30), Benton Harbor ($4.27), and Lansing ($4.26), with the least expensive averages reported in Traverse City ($4.08), Marquette ($4.12), and Grand Rapids ($4.21).
Domestic gasoline supply increased from 210.5 million barrels to 211.3 million, according to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), while gasoline demand increased from 8.84 million to 8.94 million. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.7 million barrels per day.
