WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – A former Ann Arbor resident was sentenced on Monday to 19 years in prison for exchanging sexually graphic messages with multiple children, some as young as 10 years old, and soliciting them for pornographic images.

Cody Brian Pavasco, 32, of Indiana, pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child, receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography. A fourth charge for coercion and enticement of a minor was dismissed, according to court documents.

The charges stem from a police report made by a Texas mother in February 2024 about a Discord exchange she discovered between her young daughter and another user that was sexual in nature. The conversation was from the night before and appeared to be a continuation of an earlier conversation that was deleted.

The mother gave police consent to search the phone the child used and found sexually graphic messages and images exchanged between the child and the other user — later determined to be Pavasco via search warrants for the user’s subscriber information and IP address.

On April 17, 2024, the mother contacted police again, reporting her young daughter had been in contact with the same user.

Approximately seven months later, police requested updated subscriber information from Discord, which confirmed that the account was still associated with the original user and listed Pavasco’s billing address in Ann Arbor.

Police say a different IP address from an apartment in Ypsilanti was used to log into the account between Sept. 16, 2024, and Nov. 22, 2024, prompting the authorization of an additional search warrant for the Discord account.

That warrant revealed additional sexually graphic chats with other children between the ages of 10 and 16 years old between March 2023 and October 2023 — including one where Pavasco allegedly asked for naked photos of a child who told him she was under 16 years old.

Upon completion of his 225-month sentence, Pavasco will be required to serve 10 years on supervised release.
