DETROIT – Weekend visitors to the Michigan Science Center now have a chance to watch a live dissection and learn about anatomy and health through the museum’s new “Insides Out” program.
The dissection series, presented by Medline Inc., will take place on the museum’s main floor in Mi-Sci’s Learning Launchpad from 2-4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday.
“Including health and anatomy education into our programming is part of our mission to put YOU at the center of science,” said Dr. Christian Greer, president and CEO of the Michigan Science Center, in a news release. “Our goal is to make these demonstrations fascinating, fun and approachable so the kids present are even better prepared to engage with this type of content when they encounter it later in the classroom.”
The program will utilize sheep hearts and other organs that offer parallels to human anatomy, allowing visitors to see something new each week. It will also include hands-on activities for kids like coloring sheets, paper models and stuffed animal models to help them follow along with the dissection, according to the museum.
“Through this partnership with the Michigan Science Center, we’re helping make anatomy and health education more engaging and accessible for families while inspiring the healthcare innovators and caregivers of the future,” Medline Chief Marketing Officer Jenny Lee said about the program.
