Wedding reception chaos: 3 shot, others injured at Athena Hall in Roseville

No life-threatening injuries

ROSEVILLE, Mich. – Several people were injured after a large fight broke out and shots were fired Saturday night at a wedding reception venue in Roseville, police said.

Roseville police received multiple 911 calls at about 11 p.m. Aug. 8 reporting a large fight and shots fired at Athena Hall, located at 25650 Gratiot Avenue, where a wedding reception was underway.

According to witnesses, guests began fighting and at least two handguns were brandished before shots were fired. Police said the scene quickly descended into chaos as guests fled the venue.

Police said three people were shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All three were taken to local hospitals and are expected to recover.

Officers stopped one of the fleeing vehicles and found a woman inside who had been shot in the chest, police said. The driver told officers they were taking her to a hospital for treatment.

A man was also struck by a fleeing vehicle and appeared to have suffered a broken hip, according to police. He was treated at the scene before being taken for further medical care.

Another person suffered a deep laceration to the hand. Police said it was not immediately clear how that injury occurred.

The Roseville Police Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident.
