GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Monday marks one year since a Grand Blanc Township church was under attack, leaving four dead and several others injured.
Background
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township on McCandlish Road was under attack on Sept. 28, 2025. A gunman crashed his truck into the church, opened fire on congregants and set the building ablaze.
The FBI said this was a “targeted act of violence,” citing the shooter’s anti-religious beliefs against the Mormon community as the motivation.
The shooter was killed by police at the scene.

Community support
Following the attack, local officials established a “Victim Compassion Fund” to support those impacted by the tragedy. More information can be found here.

Church to be rebuilt
Marking one year since the attack, the church will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“We are grateful for all the care and support shown to our community this past year. The end of this month marks the one-year anniversary of the tragic events at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, in remembrance of which, we would like to invite you to join a live Broadcast of the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc.”

The groundbreaking ceremony is set for Sept. 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The church is inviting the public to join a live broadcast of the ceremony. More details can be found here.
