TROY – A series of infrastructure failures causing “substantial water loss” at the Troy Family Aquatic Center last summer has prompted city officials to close the facility for the 2027 summer season.

Officials say the facility will be closed next year so they can complete extensive repairs — which are expected to cost around $1 million to get the aquatic center operational by 2028.

A review of the water loss by both Department of Public Works and Recreation staff and outside leak-detection specialists in summer 2026 revealed the source to be “multiple failures throughout the facility’s aging underground systems,” rather than one or two isolated leaks.

The city projects it would cost approximately $15 million to “significantly extend the infrastructure’s use,” requiring city officials to evaluate possible long-term solutions for keeping the community space operational well into the future.

“TFAC has been a gathering place for Troy families for generations, and we do not take these decisions lightly,” said City Manager Frank Nastasi, in a news release. “Because repairs can only be done in the summer, the pool will be closed for the 2027 season. We will keep evaluating its long-term future, and we hope community partnerships can be part of the solution.”

City officials say the city has invested more than $1.6 million in capital improvements at the aquatic center since 2020, including more than $487,000 in Fiscal Year 2026 to resurface the pool with marcite, helping to prevent leaks .

The indoor leisure pool at the Troy Community Center will remain open during the repairs, according to the city.
