Eastpointe man arrested in connection with fatal graduation party shooting in Roseville

Luke Filary, 18, killed in shooting early Sunday

ROSEVILLE, Mich.Police said they have made an arrest in a shooting that left an 18-year-old man dead at his cousin's graduation party.

It happened about 12:30 a.m. Sunday at a home on Calahan Road in Roseville.

Police said a group of people were asked to leave the party and returned a while later with a gun. At least five rounds were fired, striking Luke Filary. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

Friends said he was the life of the party and they can't believe he's gone.

"It doesn't make sense," one friend said. "It's not fair to him or his family. It's just crazy because I just talked to him recently, and now he's gone."

Filary's friends said the Clinton Township teenager was popular and worked hard.

"Whenever I see him on Snapchat he's working," another friend said. "Luke was always (the) life of party. He's always funny and having a good time."

It's unclear if Filary knew the people who were asked to leave.

"I just don't understand what was going through their heads," a friend said. "I don't know. I can never relate to that."

Police said after the group was asked to leave, about eight people showed up at the home in two vehicles.

Police have impounded one car and are looking for a dark-colored blue or black sedan.

Police said the man arrested Sunday is a resident of Eastpointe.

No other details were released on the arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 586-447-4484.
