Man hospitalized in police-involved shooting on Detroit's west side

Man pulled weapon as officers approached, police say

DETROIT – A man was taken to a hospital after being hit in a police-involved shooting Friday night on Detroit's west side, police said.

It happened on Winthrop Street near Wadsworth Avenue.

Police said around 9:50 p.m. officers on routine patrol saw a man outside of a vacant house in a known drug area.

As the officers approached, the man pulled a weapon. Police said officers, fearing for their lives, fired at the man.

The man was hit several times and taken to a hospital in temporary serious condition, police said. None of the officers were hurt.
