This chart is tracking daily new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Michigan.
- Special section: COVID-19 data
It is also tracking daily new deaths of COVID-19 patients in Michigan.
May 14 data note: Several factors are contributing to Thursday’s increase, including backlogged results being reported electronically into the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS) and increased testing at correctional facilities across the state.
The report of 1,191 cases includes cases from commercial labs Garcia, a lab with significant presence in Michigan’s correctional facilities and corporate environment, Orchard Technology and P4. Results from these labs were being entered manually, which led to a backlog, and are now being reported electronically into MDSS.
May 4 data note: The state was late to reporting May COVID-19 data due to a “software” problem. When data was reported later in the day, the state release it with this note:
“These counts are representative of data in the Michigan Disease Surveillance System as of 4 p.m. on May 4, 2020. However, as the data backlog is still processing from a software issue, today’s numbers are not representative of the full data set since the May 3 report.”
