Officials say two men were on a 10-to-12-foot, flat bottom aluminum boat when they began experiencing motor issues. According to authorities, 26-year-old Nathan Robbins, of Tittabawassee Township, attempted to get the motor back up and running when his clothing got caught in the motor.

The other man in the boat, a 23-year-old, told police he was able to free Robbins’ clothing from the motor, but noticed he was also taking water into his overalls. He said that is when he began taking off his clothes and swimming for shore.

The 23-year-old reportedly saw Robbins go under water and did not see him resurface.

Several police and fire departments, as well as the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Dive Team and the Southeast Michigan Dive Group, responded to the scene and took part in a search of the waters and shoreline.

Police said Sunday that the search yielded no positive results, but efforts to locate Robbins were still underway.
