White supremacists attack interracial couple at Tennessee pub, police say

Hours after a so-called “White Lives Matter” rally in Shelbyville, Tennessee on Saturday, a group of white supremacists attacked an interracial couple at a pub in Brentwood. Part of the altercation was caught on video.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department described the situation in a statement.

They said the couple, a 30-year-old white woman and a 37-year-old black man, were in the pub when a group of about 20 to 30 white men and women entered and sat behind them. The group  began taunting the couple.

One of the group members allegedly asked the woman to “guess,” and she responded “white lives matter.”

Another allegedly said "that’s right" and told her to join their table and leave her boyfriend.

The woman went outside in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. An argument started and then a man in the group reportedly punched the woman in the face, causing a cut above her eye.

All parties were gone by time police arrived, but the woman returned to make a report. She refused medical treatment.

Police are now looking for the man who punched the woman, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The incident took place hours after the white nationalist rally in Shelbyville. The rally remained peaceful, with security measures taken to keep the white supremacists and counter-protesters separated.

A second rally was planned in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on Saturday afternoon, but was cancelled.
