Police search for gunman in Oakland County after man and woman shot at apartment

2 shot in Brandon Township

BRANDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police are searching for a gunman in a small Oakland County community after two people were critically wounded Tuesday night.

Officials said a man and a woman in their mid-30s were shot in Ortonville, a small town in Brandon Township.

The shooting victims are in stable condition.

Police said a 3-year-old girl was in the home at the time of the shooting. She was not injured.

Investigators with the Oakland County Sheriff's Department scoured through an apartment complex, where the victims were found.

The man and woman were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. They are now listed in stable condition.

Police released an image of Michael Joseph Quigley, 34, who is suspected in connection with the shooting. He is known to the Oakland County Sheriff's Department and Michigan State Police in the area.

He has a criminal history, police said.

Quigley is believed to be on foot in the neighborhood in downtown Ortonville. The police station is just across the street.

"We're telling everyone to please stay indoors," a police spokesman said. "We have a lot of resources out here. We have a lot of canine dogs. We have deputies from all over the area. Our special investigations unit is out here. Our fugitive unit is out here. We're combing through the area. Our helicopter is in the air.

"So we're asking everyone to please stay inside. We have received some calls, and we're aware that some people have been outside their residents armed after they've heard what happened. We're asking everyone to just please go back inside and keep the doors locked and don't be doing that."

Officials believe Quigley is laying low in the neighborhood. According to Oakland County court records, Quigley's wife filed for divorce last week.
