DETROIT – When paramedics went to a home Wednesday morning on Hamburg Street in Detroit they were expecting to attend to a woman who had fallen and hit her head.
Instead, they were greeted by more than 30 dogs inside the home. The 47-year-old woman was dead inside, but the emergency responders could not reach her because of the dogs. They had to call for police.
Officers arrived and immediately called for backup. At one point there were between 15 and 20 police officers at the home, including Animal Control officers. They had to work with the family at the home to get the dogs out of the way so paramedics could get to the woman.
Police said the woman, who lived in the home with her two adult siblings and her mother, likely was dead hours before they arrived.
The video above shows Animal Control removing the dogs, which range in breed and age. At least four puppies were removed. Animal Control said the dogs are well fed and clean. They are well taken care of.
Overall, 32 dogs were removed from the home.
The Detroit city ordinance allows for only four dogs to live at one home. The family was allowed to keep four. It's unclear what will happen to the other 28 dogs right now.
Meanwhile, a cause of death for the woman is not known at this time. Police said the 911 caller said the woman fell and hit her head.
