Underdogs keep helping Detroit Lions’ division title hopes on Monday Night Football

Giants upset Packers to keep them 3 behind Lions

DETROIT – The Detroit Lions’ division title hopes got another huge assist from an underdog on Monday Night Football this week.

Two weeks ago, after the Lions lost to the Packers on Thanksgiving Day, the Bears did them a solid by knocking off the Vikings without even scoring a touchdown.

Minnesota had a chance to creep within one game of the Lions in the loss column at the time, but Chicago went on the road and pulled out a win.

This week, it was the lowly New York Giants helping the Lions. They hosted the Packers on Monday night as six-point underdogs and found a way to win despite giving up a go-ahead touchdown with under two minutes remaining.

Green Bay was hoping to pull into a tie with the Vikings in the NFC North. The Vikings are currently two games back of the Lions.

Instead, the Packers trail by a full three games with only four weeks remaining, so they’re on life support in terms of the division race. If the Lions finish 1-3, the Packers must go undefeated to catch them in the North. Even if the Lions go 4-0, the Packers have to win three of their last four to force a tie.

Green Bay would win a potential tiebreaker with the Lions, but it’s an uphill battle to force that situation.
