DETROIT – The Detroit Pistons are wasting no time reshaping their roster this offseason, acquiring guard Isaiah Joe from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

When Pistons fans hear the names Isiah (Thomas) and Joe (Dumars), they think of the back-to-back NBA Finals MVPs of the Bad Boys era.

But the newly acquired 25-year-old has championship experience of his own, winning a title last season with the Thunder.

The Pistons acquired Joe in exchange for two future second-round draft picks, adding a proven perimeter shooter to complement All-NBA guard Cade Cunningham.

The move comes after Detroit won an Eastern Conference-best 60 games last season and advanced to the conference semifinals.

Joe, 25, is coming off the best season of his six-year NBA career, averaging a career-high 11.1 points in 21.2 minutes per game while shooting 42.3% from 3-point range on six attempts per game.

His 42.3% mark ranked among the league’s best high-volume three-point shooters, and he finished 30th in the NBA with 181 made three-pointers last season.

Joe joins a Detroit roster that has emphasized outside shooting this offseason.

He will team with Cunningham alongside other perimeter threats, including former Michigan Wolverines star Duncan Robinson, who shot 41% from beyond the arc last season.

Joe was originally selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the 2020 NBA draft before joining the Thunder in 2022.

He developed into one of the league’s most reliable long-range shooters during his time in Oklahoma City, averaging double figures in each of the past two seasons.

Detroit acquired the rights to center Ugonna Onyenso, the No. 53 overall pick in the 2026 NBA draft, from the New York Knicks for cash considerations.

The Pistons also sent Isaiah Stewart to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for three future second-round draft picks.

Detroit also traded up four spots on draft night, acquiring the No. 17 overall pick from Memphis in exchange for the No. 21 selection and three second-round picks, then selected Stanford guard Ebuka Okorie, one of college basketball’s most explosive scorers.

General Manager Trajan Langdon seems to be building a championship contender, but Detroit is missing that major piece.

And with reports flying around that Detroit is big game fishing for that second star this offseason, who could potentially be next to don the horsepower uniforms?
