Dense fog is settling across Southeast Michigan this morning, creating hazardous travel conditions for the morning commute. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for all Southeast Michigan counties except Sanilac County until 8 a.m. Visibilities have dropped to one-half mile or less in many locations, with some areas experiencing even lower visibility at times. Drivers should slow down, leave extra time for the commute, and use low-beam headlights. Visibility is expected to improve quickly shortly after sunrise as the fog dissipates.
Once the fog lifts, the weather remains unsettled. Isolated thunderstorms are possible again today and Thursday, although most locations will remain dry at any given time. There is also a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather later today, extending from Flat Rock northward into the Thumb. While widespread severe weather is not expected, an isolated stronger storm could produce gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning.
A drier stretch arrives Friday and continues through most of Saturday, providing a brief break from the showers and thunderstorms. The weather turns more active again Saturday night into Sunday, when there is a renewed chance for thunderstorms and potentially heavy rainfall. The exact timing and coverage will become clearer as we get closer to the weekend. Temperatures will remain seasonable through the end of the workweek, with afternoon highs generally in the 80s.
