Pistons’ Dwane Casey is being ‘cautious’ with Isaiah Stewart after recent injury

Stewart did indeed return for the Pistons’ game vs. the Knicks, and their following game vs. the Chicago Bulls in Paris, France, but now he’s out again. Like Hayes, Stewart missed Monday’s game vs. the Bucks, once again due to issues with the same shoulder. When Stewart was out for three games (Jan. 10-Jan.13), Casey -- and the NBA injury report -- described it as left shoulder soreness. However, Casey himself stated that shoulder soreness is one thing, but what Stewart is now dealing with is a left shoulder injury. Until his recent injury, Stewart was currently playing some of his best basketball since transitioning to a stretch-four.

Pistons’ Cade Cunningham ‘feeling great’ following season-ending surgery

The injury required surgery that will keep him out of the lineup at least a month. That’s when Pistons guard Cade Cunningham was sidelined with a stress fracture in his left tibia. Unfortunately for the Pistons, the injury required season-ending surgery. I’m happy about it, I’m happy I got it done. As he prepared for his first major surgery, Cunningham told Ellis he consulted with teammate Rodney McGruder and Dallas Mavericks guard and former Michigan standout Tim Hardaway.

Source: Pistons’ Cade Cunningham to have season-ending surgery

DETROIT -- A league source confirmed to MLive on Monday that Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham is set to undergo season-ending surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left shin, limiting his second season to only 12 games. However, the Pistons’ season still started off cold, as they carried a 3-9 record while Cunningham was in the lineup. At first, the expectation from the Pistons’ medical staff was that Cunningham would only miss several games, giving him the chance to rest and heal. In over 16 starts since Cunningham’s absence, Hayes has averaged 11 points, 6.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Currently, the Pistons hold the NBA’s worst record, sitting at 7-22 on the season, presumably preparing for another year in the lottery.

Pistons select guard Jaden Ivey of Purdue with fifth pick

The Detroit Pistons selected 6-4 shooting guard Jaden Ivey of Purdue with the No. The athletic Ivey is a good scorer who attacks the rim and has a high upside. Many projected him to be selected fourth overall, but the Sacramento Kings instead took Keegan Murray, a 6-8 forward from Iowa. The Kings didn’t work-out Ivey or speak to him prior to the draft, leading to speculation that they would pass on him. One of the biggest questions surrounding Ivey and the Pistons is how a ball-dominant guard can fit in on a roster that has Cade Cunningham, last year’s top overall pick, and Killian Hayes, the No.
