Michigan may be known for its automobile history but just behind manufacturing, tourism and agriculture fill out the state’s top three industries. To date, there are more than 800 agritourism businesses, working farms open to visitors, across the state, said Janice Benson, executive director of Michigan Agritourism Association. The Great Lakes give Michigan agriculture a unique advantage, allowing farmers to grow a large variety of crops from asparagus to peaches — making room for agriculture festivals for every season. “We’re probably never going to get away from the roots, which is the fall business,” Pittsley said. This fall brought Blake’s U-pick business a record apple crop and, in turn, 80,000 visitors to its Funland locations, Pittsley said.

ANN ARBOR, MI -- A smorgasbord of sweet treats and coffee drinks is now available in downtown Ann Arbor at a storefront that recently hosted the Cupcake Station. Cupcake Station locations in Ferndale and Plymouth also are being converted to Bakehouse46 locations, with additional locations coming soon in Novi and Grand Rapids. In celebration of the location’s launch, Blakehouse46 is offering a free cider doughnut and cup of cider to the first 46 customers each day for 46 days. In addition to cider doughnuts, Bakehouse46 also offers specialty doughnuts topped with Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Fruity Pebbles cereals and other flavorings.
