EAST LANSING, Mich. โ Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker tried to avoid saying the name of his in-state rival ahead of their matchup this weekend, calling Michigan โthat school up/down the roadโ four times during his Tuesday press conference. In his first season as Michigan Stateโs head coach, Tucker is stoking the flames of an already-hot rivalry between the Wolverines and Spartans. Michigan battling for bowl eligibility against Maryland Saturday
ANN ARBOR, Mich. โ Michigan's football season has been a disappointment from basically every single angle. With a win against Maryland Saturday the Wolverines will qualify for, and surely receive an invitation to, a bowl game. But qualifying for a bowl game could upgrade the 2014 season from total disaster to serious disappointment. Most importantly, focusing on a bowl game would buy the university more time in its search for an athletic director and potential replacement for Hoke. What we learn from this flashback is that fans have power, because the fans ultimately drive the financial and future success of Michigan football.
University of Michigan RB Fitzgerald Toussaint arrested for drunken driving
ANN ARBOR, Mich. โ The starting running back for the Michigan Wolverines, Fitzgerald Toussaint, was arrested on DUI charges Saturday night in Ann Arbor after having a blood alcohol level over the legal limit of .08. Head coach Brady Hoke said in a statement, "Fitz made a poor decision and has been suspended indefinitely because of that action." U of M coach Brady Hoke named Big Ten Coach of the Year
PARK RIDGE, Ill. โ According to reports, the Big Ten Conference announced on Wednesday that University of Michigan head football coach Brady Hoke was chosen as the Hayes-Schembechler Coach of the Year. Hoke is the sixth first-year coach to earn the McClain Coach of the Year award, which dates back to 1972.
