detroit.cbslocal.comBlake Bacho on NFL: Megatron is worthy, but he'll wait
Blake discusses whether former Detroit Lion Calvin Johnson has earned a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Officially five years removed from his retirement from the NFL, the man formerly known as Megatron is among 14 first-year-eligible candidates for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, according to a story released by the Associated Press on Wednesday. A six-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro, Johnson still holds the NFL record for most receiving yards in a single season with 1,964. But I won’t be surprised to see it take another year or two for Megatron to get his bust. Blake Bacho is a staff writer at The Monroe News; he can be reached at bbacho@monroenews.com.

Eighteen finalists will be presented to the full 48-member panel: the 15 modern-era finalists, and the recently nominated Drew Pearson (senior); Bill Nunn (contributor); and Tom Flores (coach). Enshrinement at the hall in Canton, Ohio, will take place next August, when members of the 2020 class and a special centennial class also will enter the football shrine.
What Calvin Johnson has to say about Detroit Lions career
It's been four years since Calvin Johnson retired from the NFL as the Detroit Lions all-time leading receiver. Johnson still has friends on the team, including quarterback Matthew Stafford, but said: "I wouldn't necessarily say I cheer for the Lions," Johnson says. In 2017, Johnson voiced his frustration with the Lions during his career and even mentioned that he wouldn't come back if he had to play in Detroit. Johnson spent his entire career with the Lions, holding the team record for most career receptions (715), yards (11,619), and touchdowns (83). Johnson holds several NFL records, including the most receiving yards in a single season (1,964), most consecutive games with at least 100 receiving yards (8) and the most receiving yards in a fourth-quarter game (329).
