Teens airlifted following 4-vehicle crash in St. Joseph County
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI — Two teenagers and another man had to be airlifted to the hospital after a four-vehicle crash Friday. Around 4 p.m. Friday, June 17, St. Joseph County Sheriff’s deputies, Michigan State Police and Burr Oak Police and Fire were dispatched to the area of East Chicago Road (U.S. 12) near Burr Oak Road in Burr Oak Township for a four-vehicle crash. First responders said the Chevy Silverado crossed the center line, where it struck a Buick Encore driven by 20-year-old Nayeli Delapaz-Arroyo and continued on to hit a Nissan NV3500 work van driven by Juan Nino-Ramirez. Of everyone involved, the two teens and Mr. Nino-Ramirez had suffered severe enough injuries that they required an airlift to a Kalamazoo area hospital for treatment. A passenger in the work van was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Blackman Leoni Township Department of Public Safety officers responded to the crash on I-94, east of Sargent Road, at approximately 10:48 a.m. Jan 24, Director Mike Jester said. A 41-year-old Flat Rock man driving a 2020 Chevy Silverado was rear-ended by a 47-year-old St. Clair man in a 2019 Isuzu box truck, Jester said. Lanes on I-94 were intermittently closed during the crash cleanup as Michigan State Police assisted at the scene for traffic control, Jester said.
