Devin Booker scored 28 points, Damion Lee made a go-ahead baseline jumper with 9.7 seconds left and the Phoenix Suns rallied from 22 points down in the third quarter to beat the Dallas Mavericks 107-105 on Wednesday in the season opener for both teams.

Harden sat out the fourth quarter against his former team with right hamstring tightness, finishing with 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists. The Rockets jumped to a 24-6 lead, with an 8-for-9 start that included makes on all five 3-point attempts. The Rockets listed the injury as a left knee effusion and it's unknown whether it will keep him out longer.

Houston’s skid was tied for the ninth-worst in NBA history and the longest since Philadelphia’s record-setting, 28-game losing streak across the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. But Wall had 19 points, 10 assists and 11 rebounds, his first triple-double since Feb. 5, 2016. In their losing streak, Houston led after the first quarter only three times, including on Feb. 26 when they led the Raptors 31-30.

The injury-plagued Rockets were playing just their fourth game of the season where Christian Wood, Victor Oladipo and John Wall were all available. Wall had 21 points and seven assists, Oladipo had 19 points, and Wood 18 points and 11 rebounds. Rockets: Wall was charged with a flagrant foul on a second-quarter collision with Frank Jackson and later received a technical foul for arguing with officials in the third quarter.
USA Basketball picks 57 players for men's Tokyo Games pool
USA Basketball is a step closer to choosing the team that will play in this summer’s rescheduled Tokyo Olympics, releasing the names Thursday of 57 players who are part of the pool to fill the squad. It’s also already drawing major interest from some NBA stars who have yet to taste Olympic gold. USA Basketball will pare the list to a 12-person Olympic team by early summer. Jordan, who now plays for Brooklyn, is also a newcomer to the pool even though he was on the 2016 Olympic team. “But for USA Basketball to receive the commitment of so many outstanding players remains an indicator of the great honor of representing your country means to these men.”

Report: Clippers, Knicks interested in acquiring Derrick Rose from Pistons
There’s still a month and a half left until the NBA trade deadline, but teams have already made some big-time trades. According to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Los Angeles Clippers and the New York Knicks have expressed interest in veteran point guard Derrick Rose. The veteran played for Thibodeau again from 2017-2019 when the two were with Minnesota Timberwolves. The pistons acquired the draft rights to Isaiah Stewart, as well as Trevor Ariza, future-second round pick and cash considerations. Lillard's layup pushed the Blazers ahead 125-123 with 30 seconds left in overtime, but Harden made a 3 to push the Rockets ahead with 15.3 seconds left. Then with 6.3 seconds left, the ball found McCollum again and the Blazers' guard hit another long range shot putting Portland ahead 128-126. After Wood cut the Blazers lead to 123-120 with a layup, Harden tied the game again at 123 with 38.6 seconds left. After a missed 3-pointer by Lillard, Houston’s PJ Tucker was called for a loose ball foul on the rebound with 32 seconds left.

Christian Wood had a breakout season with the Detroit Pistons, and now he has cashed in elsewhere. Wood will sign a three-year, $41 million contract with the Houston Rockets in a sign-and-trade deal with the Pistons, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Friday during the first day of free agency. Wood reportedly will be part of the draft night deal between Detroit and Houston in which the Pistons received the No. 16 pick (they selected Isaiah Stewart), veteran forward Trevor Ariza and $4.6 million for a heavily protected future first-round pick and the Lakers’ 2021 second-round selection. Christian Wood of the Detroit Pistons has tested positive for the coronavirus, a person with direct knowledge of the situation said Saturday night. Wood is feeling fine, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither the Pistons nor Wood had publicly confirmed his positive result. Utahs Donovan Mitchell has also tested positive for the virus. The Pistons later confirmed that a player they did not name Wood tested positive Saturday and has been in self-isolation. For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough.
