Rowdy Tellez continued to sizzle while the Cincinnati Reds continued to fizzle. Tellez homered twice and set a Milwaukee Brewers record with eight RBIs to extend his recent power surge in an 18-4 blowout of the reeling Reds on Wednesday night. “It’s just putting together consistent at-bats, hitting the ball hard, getting myself in leverage counts and, when you get to two strikes, not panicking,” Tellez said.

mlive.comKyle Meinke’s final 2022 NFL mock draft: Detroit Lions supercharge defense with pass rusher, safety
If true, the Lions can hop into a gondola at the Bellagio and run their selection to Roger Goodell right now. Hutchinson is probably the safest pick of them all, and especially for where the Lions is at right now in this rebuild. Cincinnati, on the other hand, can’t afford to leave this draft without material upgrades in its protection for Joe Burrow. Linebacker is a big need, but then again, so is safety, where the Lions have Tracy Walker and not much else. He’s long, he’s fast, he hits hard, and he can play all over the defense.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper thinks so in his latest mock draft, projecting the Lions to use the No. That’s Gardner,” Kiper writes. Of course, Kiper doesn’t think that’s going to happen either, instead sending a safety to Detroit at that spot.

mlive.comWhy Michigan, not Cincinnati, is the Cinderella of the College Football Playoff
At first glance, the Cinderella story in this year’s College Football Playoff is Cincinnati, the first team outside one of the so-called “Power 5” conferences to qualify. “Nobody thought we could do this,” Michigan star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson said after Michigan beat Iowa on Saturday night to win the Big Ten championship and clinch a playoff berth. Michigan was all the way down at…”others receiving votes.” Michigan received 12 votes, good for 32nd overall. Michigan was ranked behind five Big Ten teams: Ohio State, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, and Penn State. It may be hard to embrace the idea of the winningest program in college football history being an underdog, a surprise, a Cinderella.

mlive.comSteelers living out purgatory promised by salary-cap crunch
The Pittsburgh Steelers took a flyer on Mike Hilton five years ago, and the undersized cornerback repaid their faith by becoming one of the most versatile defensive backs in the NFL, a relentless 5-foot-9 tornado who maximized every last ounce of his talent. When Hilton hit the open market last spring, the Steelers — grappling with a one-time-only unexpected dip in the salary cap because of the COVID-19 pandemic — had no recourse when Cincinnati offered Hilton a four-year, $24 million contract. It was the same with guard Matt Feiler and left tackle Alejandro Villanueva, who both walked in free agency for $7 million-a-year deals elsewhere for Los Angeles and Baltimore.

As much as American soccer players want wins, they crave respect. During a climb from soccer obscurity that began four decades ago, the U.S. has achieved milestone after milestone but carries its poor pedigree like a millstone as it tries to force its way into the world’s elite. mlive.comWMU football to net $1.3M by dropping 2024 home game vs. Cincinnati for trip to Ohio State
After some offseason shuffling of its nonconference football schedule, WMU will no longer host Cincinnati in Week 4 of the 2024 season, opting instead for a trip to Ohio State and a $1.8 million payday from the Buckeyes. Through a Freedom of Information Act request, MLive obtained details of the canceled football contract between the WMU and Cincinnati football programs, as well as the Broncos’ new deal to visit Ohio Stadium in 2024. DETROIT -- The Lions’ losing streak reached an NFL-worst 10 games on Sunday with a 34-11 setback against the Cincinnati Bengals. But now he appears to be on a collision course with Ja’Marr Chase, who has electrified the NFL with his big-play ability. “He just runs behind guys,” Jacobs said. So don’t worry.”The responsibility of guarding a guy like that in your second NFL start is not lost on Jacobs, who says he’s up for the challenge.
