EMU partners in creating new, all-girls eSports teams in Michigan
YPSILANTI, MI — Eastern Michigan University’s GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology program is joining CODE 313 and PNC Foundation to create two all-girl eSports teams for Detroit high school students. Digital Divas, a series of programs founded at EMU in 2010, encourages girls to explore areas in science, technology, engineering and math — also known as STEM. The partnership between EMU’s program, CODE 313 and PNC Foundation will give students an opportunity to examine STEM through the world of competitive gameplay, officials said. “Partnering with CODE 313 is really exciting,” said Bia Hamed, EMU’s Digital Divas program director. With their involvement in this collaboration, Digital Divas hope to give high school girls the courage and opportunity to study technology through electronic sports, officials said.
