Flat Rock firefighters get COVID-19 shots
Thirty members of the Flat Rock Fire Department became the first workers in the City of Flat Rock to receive the Pfizer vaccine Monday. The firefighters got their shots at the Wayne County Health Department in Wayne, said Fire Chief James Katona, who also was vaccinated. The vaccinations were the first of two shots the firefighters will receive as part of the pilot vaccination program, the chief said. Flat Rock Police Chief Glen Hoffman said he expects his force of 18 police officers will receive their shots in about a week or so.

Flat Rock's fire chief, fire inspector and civil defense director and former building official has served his last day in office. Units from Gibraltar, Huron Township, Rockwood and Woodhaven assisted Flat Rock in putting the fire out. A graduate of Flat Rock High School, he earned an associates degree and his emergency medical technician certification at Monroe County Community College. He does volunteer work at Flat Rock United Methodist Church. Bills mother, Ruth, lives in the Flat Rock area.
