2 hospitalized after motorcycle hits deer near Jackson
JACKSON COUNTY, MI -- A pair of motorcycle riders are in critical condition after hitting a deer Tuesday night near Jackson, police said. At about 10 p.m. June 28, officers from the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety were dispatched to a motorcycle crash on S. Dettman Road north of Page Avenue in Leoni Township, in eastern Jackson County. A 2013 Harley Davidson was heading south when it hit a deer, police said, adding that the crash caused both the driver, a 45-year-old Leoni Township man, and his passenger, a 42-year-old Jackson woman, to be ejected from the bike. Both suffered serious injuries, and were taken to Henry Ford Jackson Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment, police said, adding that neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing helmets. 2 dead after weekend crashes in Flint
FLINT, MI -- Two people are dead after two separate crashes over the weekend in the city. A traffic crash involving a black Harley Davidson motorcycle occurred around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, May 2 on West Court Street near Ann Arbor Street. The initial investigation has revealed the motorcycle was headed east on West Court Street and failed to negotiate a corner. The motorcycle then went off the road into a grassy median, according to a Flint Police Department news release. Speed is believed to be a factor in this crash and it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor, according to police.mlive.com
Alcohol likely involved in motorcycle crash that killed Clinton Township man, police say
CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 39-year-old Clinton Township man named Gary King died in a motorcycle crash on Sunday that alcohol was likely involved in, police say. King lost control of his 2020 Harley Davidson and crashed. Debris from the incident led to the Eastpointe man’s 2004 Harley Davidson crashing. The Eastpointe man sustained an arm injured arm during the crash. When a Chesterfield Township police sergeant started CPR on the victim at the scene he was not breathing.
Motorcyclist killed after losing control, crashing in Lenawee County
WOODSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday after losing control and crashing in Lenawee County, police said. Paul Bishop, 51, of Onstead, was driving a motorcycle around 1 a.m. Wednesday on Devils Lake Highway north of of U.S. 223 in Woodstock Township, according to authorities. Michigan State Police troopers said Bishop was heading south on Devils Lake Highway on a 2005 Harley Davidson when he crossed the center line and began to brake. He lost control of the motorcycle, went off the north side of the roadway and crashed into a berm, officials said. He was not wearing a helmet, according to state police.
US consumer spending rises 0.2% in September

The Commerce Department said Thursday that consumer spending rose 0.2% last month, matching August's increase but coming in slightly below economists' expectations. Consumer spending accounts for about 70% of U.S. economic activity. The government reported Wednesday that consumer spending rose at a solid annual pace of 2.9% from July through September, a bright spot in a quarter when the overall economy grew a mediocre 1.9%. The savings rate had dropped to 3.2% in 2005 before the Great Recession.

Harley Davidson second-quarter sales continued to slide as profit falls 19%
Sales of Harley-Davidson's signature motorcycles continued to slide during the second quarter as profit, though better than expected, eroded 19% for the struggling manufacturer. Though the company beat on earnings, they slumped on sales with Harley-Davidson worldwide retail sales decreasing 8.4% in the second quarter. U.S. retail sales were also down 8.0% in the quarter with international retail sales down 8.9%. The company's bike deliveries are down by 5.3% compared to a year ago, according to its second quarter earnings report. In Asia and the pacific Harley has seen Motorcycle retail sales drop by 4,165 units from 2016 to 2018.cnbc.com
Meet the 1st woman Secret Service motorcycle officer
It's a routine part of the job, but Gunawan's presence is unprecedented: she's the first woman to serve in the Motorcade Support Unit. Gunawan is one of the newest members of the elite 14-person unit, which falls under the Uniformed Division of the Secret Service. Commonly referred to as "motors" by the Secret Service, the unit is responsible for spontaneously stopping traffic under pressure as the motorcade approaches in order for the protectee to safely pass. And it was her love of motorcycles and her sense of adrenaline that pushed her to go further with the Secret Service. The woman officer said she wouldn't want to do any other job and hopes more women will one day ride alongside her.
