A building in a Troy apartment complex was destroyed in a fire Saturday afternoon.

According to the Hamburg Township Fire Department, the fire started at about 3:30 a.m. at a carpet store near M-36. Fire crews from nine departments responded to the massive fire to battle the flames.

“The scariest thing about the whole situation is how do you not tell us there’s a child in there?” Williams asked. “There was a lot of black smoke.”

At one point, the smoke was so thick, the flashing emergency lights of first responders could barely be seen. An entire building filled with hundreds of boats was nearly destroyed on the shore of Lake Erie. Despite being on the shore of Lake Erie, crews were unable to get enough water to battle the fire properly.

DETROIT – Fire crews battled a house fire on Detroit’s east side Friday morning. It happened at about 6 a.m. near the intersection of Somerset Avenue and Haverhill Street, just west of I-94. Officials with the Detroit Fire Department said everyone was able to get out safely and no injuries were reported. The investigation into how the fire started is ongoing. MORE: Detroit news
