AP source: Dan Snyder agrees to $6B sale of NFL's Commanders
A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that a group led by Josh Harris and Mitchell Rales and including Magic Johnson has an agreement in principle to buy the Washington Commanders from longtime owner Dan Snyder.

Suns roll past LeBron-less Lakers for 111-94 win

Montrezl Harrell led the Lakers with 23 points off the bench on 10-of-13 shooting. The Lakers won the NBA championship last season in a COVID-19 delayed season that ended on Oct. 11.
NBA chooses All-Star reserves, with Zion among first-timers

Phoenixโs Chris Paul is an All-Star for the 11th time, and Brooklynโs James Harden is one for the ninth consecutive year. The rest of the reserves include Philadelphiaโs Ben Simmons, Bostonโs Jayson Tatum and Orlandoโs Nikola Vucevic from the Eastern Conference, along with the Los Angeles Lakersโ Anthony Davis, the Los Angeles Clippersโ Paul George, Utah teammates Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, and Portlandโs Damian Lillard from the Western Conference. But this will be his first time in the All-Star Game itself.
Minority-owned companies waited months for loans, data shows
Congress has approved a third, $284 billion round of PPP loans. The recent data from the SBA provided a more in-depth look at businesses that received loans than data released on July 6. The AP and other news organizations successfully sued under the Freedom of Information Act to make data on all PPP loans public, leading to the latest release. The SBA did not address the timing of loans to minority-owned businesses when asked for comment by the AP. MBE Capital, a lender focusing on minority-owned companies, received a commitment in mid-May from NBA Hall of Fame member Magic Johnson for funding for $100 million in PPP loans.

Agent: LeBron inks 2-year, $85 million extension with Lakers
LOS ANGELES โ LeBron James has agreed to a two-year, $85 million contract extension through the 2022-23 season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Davis and James teamed up last season and won the Lakers' 17th championship in the bubble in central Florida. Instead, James has committed to play through his 20th NBA season with the Lakers, where he moved in 2018 after title-winning tenures in Cleveland and Miami. Los Angeles famously gave a two-year, $48.5 million extension to Bryant when he was 35 years old in November 2013. For instance, Davis could structure his deal to allow Los Angeles to pursue a third superstar in free agency next summer.

Magic Johnson campaigning for Biden-Harris in Detroit, Lansing this weekend
DETROIT โ Former NBA all star and Michigan native Magic Johnson will campaign for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and running mate Kamala Harris on Saturday in Lansing and Detroit. The Biden-Harris campaign said Johnson will participate in a โShop Talkโ roundtable conversation about voting with Black men in Detroit. In Lansing, Johnsonโs hometown, he will participate in a voter mobilization event to urge Michiganders to vote early at their local clerkโs office or satellite voting location, the campaign said. Heat force Game 6, top Lakers to stave off elimination

Del Harris receives 2020's Chuck Daly achievement award
Harris was revealed Friday as this yearโs winner of the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award, as presented by the National Basketball Coaches Association. Harris coached in the NBA for 32 seasons, 14 of them as a head coach with Houston, Milwaukee and the Los Angeles Lakers. โI get introduced as Kobeโs first coach, Magicโs last coach and in the movie Space Jam,โ Harris said. He's a Herro: Heat top Celtics, move a game from NBA Finals
Whatever he read Wednesday night helped him put together the game of his life โ and carry the Miami Heat a win away from the NBA Finals. The 20-year-old Herro scored a Heat rookie-record 37 points and the Heat beat the Boston Celtics 112-109 on Wednesday night in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals. The other: Magic Johnson, who had 42 in Game 6 of the 1980 NBA Finals for the Los Angeles Lakers. โHerroโs shot-making tonight was ... the difference in the game,โ Celtics coach Brad Stevens said. The biggest Heat lead in the first three games had been eight points.
AP source: Antetokounmpo wins 2nd straight NBA MVP award
ESPN first reported that Antetokounmpo won the award. Jordan won both the MVP and Defensive Player in 1987-88 and Olajuwon won both in 1993-94. Antetokounmpo came close to joining the club last season by winning MVP and finishing second in the Defensive Player balloting. Kawhi Leonard was second in the MVP race and won Defensive Player in 2015-16, just as Dwight Howard was in 2010-11 and Alonzo Mourning in 1998-99. LeBron James won MVP and was second in Defensive Player voting in 2008-09 and 2012-13, and Shaquille OโNeal did so in 1999-2000.

1992: After retiring in November 1991 following his announcement he had tested positive for HIV, Magic Johnson announces that he is returning to the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers. He would end up calling off the comeback on Nov. 2, 1992, citing controversy over his return as some players, such as Utah's Karl Malone, were vocal about competing against a player who had tested HIV-positive.
